1 bedroom self catering cottage or apartment
We have a charming stone cottage detached from the main cortijo, or a spacious apartment at the front of the old cortijo, both are renovated with the traditional cane and beamed ceilings, have thick stone walls, and either slate or terracota floors. They can be rented together to sleep four.
Our cottages in Spain are very popular with guests, they are full of character, with thick stone walls painted in either white or ochre.They have either slate or terracota floors with beautiful tiled spacious shower rooms.Both have wood burning stoves for the cooler winter evenings, as an olive farm we can supply you with olive logs for a small price(in winter you will get a basket free on arrival)But don't worry daytimes in winter are often sunny and warm, coffee and lunch usually possible on the terrace.Both are well equipped,with oven or hob and have plenty of crockery etc. for your use.There are also barbecues on each terrace. The stone cottage has a large double bed and the apartment has a kingsize bed. We sometimes have two couples rent the places together ideal for friends who wish to retain a bit of independence from each other
The pool is fabulous its enormous!15x8 mtrs. surrounded by a terrace with sunbeds and wonderful views even from within the pool.
In the cooler months hardy people still swim! but if that is not for you then a walk up the river is a lovely thing to do in the peaceful surroundings....you probably won't see anyone at all, but the nature here is abundant, and our visitors book is full of the creatures people have seen in the river, on the land and in the sky....a haven for nature lovers The GR142 walking route is nearby, it traverses the lower Alpujarras.This area is very popular with walkers.
We have many unguarded terraces with steep drops which are unfenced, to keep it looking natural, and while it is possible to keep well away from these, we feel it is unsuitable for young children. Due to the nature of the terrain it is also unsuitable for people that have problems with walking.We are sorry we do not think it is wheelchair friendly.

Centuries old olive farm
We have gently renovated our beautiful property retaining its authentic details, and in the traditional way. We are regenerating the olive grove and harvest from some of our 300 trees to make our own olive oil which is delicious! The harvest takes place any time from November to March depending on when the olives are ready, we also do this in the traditional way, picking by hand and using canes to knock the higher ones from the branches. We then take the olives to the mill as soon as possible to ensure the oil is at its optimum in taste and quality. We sell a small quantity to neighbours and guests, and use a great deal ourselves!
Rural cottages for self catering holidays in Spain
Our land inspires artists, writers and musicians. There is a CD written with inspiration found here and a song called La Herradura in particular describes how beautiful it is.
